ABDN creates Business Awards Extravaganza by Aiming High

Arshad Chaudhry, Amit Champaneri and Hamieda Begum

Monday 4th April 2011

ABDN 2011 The 13th Annual Dinner and Business Awards, held at the prestigious Royal Armouries on the 31st March 2011 was an amazing evening of entertaining and inspiration showcasing our “Aiming High” theme highlighting businesses and individuals whom strived for excellence and have reached new heights, whatever their background, objectives or ambitions.

700 guests were treated to an exceptional experience as keynote speaker Ed Miliband MP, the Leader of the Opposition, got the audience to their feet with his vision for the future. Business speaker Kavita Oberoi, Managing Director of Oberoi Consulting guided the audience through her journey to becoming one of the leading female entrepreneurs in the country.

The most emotional moment of the evening was the inspirational speech by Chairman Arshad Chaudhry which had the audience spellbound.  Arshad Chaudhry said, “This year’s Annual Dinner was an emotional experience which inspired me to open my heart out in front of 700 guests, many of whom I know personally. The love and respect I received has given me the strength to carry on fighting and making a difference to the communities we live in.”

Some of the high profile guests at the event included Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, Richard Gregory, Chairman of Yorkshire Bank and Fabian Hamilton MP , Greg Mulholland MP and Terry Hodgkinson, former Chairman of Yorkshire Forward.

Paul Chowdhry, the internationally acclaimed comedian, was the host for the evening who gave the audience much to laugh about. Dance performances from KSPARK gave the evening the glamour and glitz to create an incredible spectacle.
We received over 100 nominations for the ABDN Business Awards this year, a record number.

More than half the nominations were from the indigenous business community and the independent judging panel had an unenviable job to select winners from a high quality shortlist. An additional award for the Rising Sports Star of the year was introduced this year.

Approximately £4000 was raised for Myeloma UK, which was the chosen charity this year. Myeloma UK provide research into this deadly disease and support for patients of myeloma.
