In 2005 the ABDN has been rebranded to ABDN Minority Ethnic Enterprise Network, initially created 1997, the ABDN aims to create awareness and provides business support by providing access to training and mainstream support services for minority ethnic pre-pre-start, pre-start and established businesses. ABDN hosts in partnership tailored training, information seminars and an Annual Dinner and Awards event. Export opportunities have been provided to enable participation in Trade Missions for potential exporters.
ABDN profile has been built through mainstream business support organisations such as: Leeds Chamber of Commerce (LC) Leeds City Council - Development Department (LCC - DD), Yorkshire Forward (YF), UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), City Growth Strategy (CGS), Leeds Initiative (LI) and the high street banks. The commitment of the Board of Directors has been exemplary. Meanwhile new directors have been appointed to help give the Board an enhanced gender and ethnic balance. The Board is now made up of 7 directors an advisor from LC and a secondee from LCC - DD.
The ABDN has a long term-perspective and has continued to be proactive, locally, regionally and internationally. Strategically positioning itself, ABDN is determined to become a top-tier player in the market of service providers to minority ethnic business people potential and established. Under the umbrella of ABDN, Minority Ethnic Women into Business Start-ups (MEWBS) launched in 2004 has continued to be developed and implemented.
Through carefully targeted media publications and press releases over the year it has enabled the organisation to raise the profile of ABDN as highlighted in this report. The Annual Report aims to give a breakdown of activities that have taken place over the last year in response the Service Level Agreement (SLA) 2005-06, formalised by the LCC-DD and LC in agreement with ABDN.
